QUETTA, Jun 23 (APP):A consultative meeting of the Family Planning 2023 Working Group emphasized that curbing rapid population growth required the collective role of religious scholars, community leaders, and all stakeholders.
The session, jointly organized by the Population Welfare Department (PWD), United Nations Family Planning Association (UNFPA), and the Balochistan government, brought together senior officials, medical experts, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for addressing the province’s growing population challenge.
Director General PWD Ghulam Mustafa, Deputy Secretary PWD Abdul Basit, and UNFPA Provincial Coordinator Dr. Saadia Atta noted that family planning supplies have been delivered across all districts of Balochistan, and significant funds have been allocated in the upcoming fiscal year to strengthen departmental performance and ensure wider access to services.
Presenting a report, Deputy Director Planning PWD Nasir Khan highlighted progress made under the programme. Director General Mustafa explained that with UNFPA’s support, male and female staff have been trained to use the Electronic Client Record (ECR) mobile application, while nine master trainers have been prepared to expand training across districts.
He added that religious scholars, community-based family planning mobilizers, and local management officers were being engaged to raise awareness and provide essential services at the grassroots level.
Dr. Saadia Atta reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to supporting the Balochistan government, the Population Welfare Department, and the Health Department in controlling population growth. She stressed that UNFPA stood ready to assist wherever needed to ensure that family planning services and awareness reach every community.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Dr. Ambreen Mengal, Dr. Samina Bugti, Dr. Mukhtar Ali Zehri, Noorullah, Jumma Khan, Muhammad Ayub Kakar, Abdul Latif Muhammad Hassani, Bilal Baloch, Dr. Sajida Parveen, and Habib Jumma, along with other departmental representatives and stakeholders.
