Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore has ordered a crackdown against public transport vehicles, rickshaws and online cab services that fail to install QR panic buttons, saying action will be launched after Ashura to ensure public safety and compliance with legal requirements.

LAHORE, Jun 20 (APP): Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore has ordered a crackdown against public transport vehicles, rickshaws and online cab services that fail to install QR panic buttons, saying action will be launched after Ashura to ensure public safety and compliance with legal requirements.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, the CTO said that public transport vehicles, online taxis and rickshaws operating without QR panic buttons would face strict action following Youm-e-Ashura.
He said the decision had been taken to strengthen public transport safety standards and enhance the protection of commuters through the adoption of modern security measures.
The CTO said dedicated teams had been deployed in every traffic sector of the city to facilitate the installation of QR panic buttons, while 12 separate teams had been assigned specifically for rickshaws.
He added that four new licensing centers had also been established on the request of various rickshaw unions to provide greater convenience to drivers.
He said several meetings had been held with representatives of online taxi companies and rickshaw unions to ensure the implementation of the QR panic button initiative and other safety measures.
The CTO warned that action would also be taken against online vehicles that fail to adopt mandatory safety and security features.
He said the installation of advanced tracking systems in online cabs would further improve monitoring of both passengers and drivers.
Emphasizing the importance of technology-driven solutions, he said citizens would be provided with safer, more reliable and higher-quality transport services through the use of modern technology.
He added that such initiatives would significantly improve traffic discipline and public safety across the city.
