ASTANA, Jun 19 (KAZINFORM/APP):The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) reported that the Ebola outbreak in Congo has escalated sharply, with cases rising by 38% in just one week, Qazinform News Agency cites WAM.Over 200 people died in the first month.
894 Ebola cases were confirmed, three times higher than Uganda’s outbreak recorded in 2000 at the same stage.
Only 74 patients recovered so far.
The outbreak spread across 32 health zones in eastern Congo.
Contact tracing hampered by remoteness, lack of funding, personnel shortages, and displacement.
Only 4,112 individuals are currently under follow-up, compared to an estimated 35,000 exposed.
