Railway Police seize banned gutka worth millions from goods train in Karachi

Pakistan Railway Police, Karachi City, acting on a tip-off, recovered a large quantity of banned gutka and betel nut products from a goods train allegedly destined for Lahore.

KARACHI, Jun 18 (APP): Pakistan Railway Police, Karachi City, acting on a tip-off, recovered a large quantity of banned gutka and betel nut products from a goods train allegedly destined for Lahore.
According to a Railway Police spokesperson on Thursday, the contraband was seized during an operation carried out under the directives of Inspector General of Railways Police Muhammad Waseem Fakhar Sultan.
The spokesperson said 354 sacks of “Ratna” gutka and 46 sacks of “Jumbi” gutka were recovered from a wagon of a goods train bound for Lahore. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth millions of rupees.
The banned items were taken into custody and legal proceedings have been initiated, the spokesperson added.
According to preliminary investigations, the consignment was allegedly being smuggled from Karachi to Lahore. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest individuals involved in the smuggling network.
The Railway Police said intelligence-based operations against crime and smuggling on the railway network would be further strengthened.
IG Railways Police Muhammad Waseem Fakhar Sultan said strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the transportation and smuggling of prohibited items.
He said the elimination of smuggling networks remained among the department’s key priorities and reaffirmed the Railway Police’s commitment to continuing its crackdown against such activities.
