Teachers licensing regime must meet international standards: Arshad Ayub

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Arshad Ayub Khan has said that the proposed Teachers Licensing Regime in the province should be aligned with international standards, stressing that a transparent and effective teacher certification system is essential for improving the quality of education and modernizing teaching and learning practices.

ABBOTTABAD, Jun 18 (APP): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Arshad Ayub Khan has said that the proposed Teachers Licensing Regime in the province should be aligned with international standards, stressing that a transparent and effective teacher certification system is essential for improving the quality of education and modernizing teaching and learning practices.
The minister expressed these views while addressing a Policy Round Table Conference on Teachers Licensing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held at the Directorate of Curriculum and Teachers Education (DCTE), Abbottabad.
 The conference brought together education experts, policymakers, and representatives of key educational institutions to discuss reforms aimed at strengthening the teaching profession.
Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Khalid, Managing Director Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation Qaiser Alam, Director Elementary and Secondary Education, Director DCTE, and representatives of B-TEG and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) also attended the event.
Education experts from Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa shared their perspectives on the implementation of a Teachers Licensing Regime and discussed strategies for enhancing teachers’ professional competencies through modern training and continuous professional development.
Participants emphasized the need to improve classroom teaching practices, strengthen mechanisms for the regular assessment of teachers’ performance, and introduce reforms that would raise educational standards across the province. Detailed discussions were also held on teachers’ induction, certification, grading, and career progression.
During the conference, it was decided to establish a Joint Task Force comprising officials from the Education Department and relevant institutions to develop a comprehensive roadmap and action plan for the implementation of the Teachers Licensing Regime in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Arshad Ayub Khan directed that Pakistani education experts serving at the international level be included in the reform process to ensure the adoption of global best practices. He reiterated that modernizing both teaching and learning remains a key component of the provincial government’s education reform agenda.
The minister further stated that providing quality education to students is among the top priorities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and emphasized that strengthening teacher certification and professional standards would play a vital role in achieving this objective.
