Governor Kundi urges unity, tolerance on International Day for Countering Hate Speech

PESHAWAR, Jun 18 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday called for collective efforts to promote tolerance, social harmony and respect for diversity, saying hate-based narratives pose a serious threat to peaceful coexistence and democratic stability.
In a message issued on the occasion of the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, the Governor said strengthening mutual understanding and respect among different segments of society was essential for national progress and social cohesion.
He said Pakistan’s strength lay in its cultural, religious and ethnic diversity, which must be protected through inclusion, mutual respect and equal opportunities for all communities.
Faisal Karim Kundi said the Constitution guaranteed equal rights to every citizen without discrimination, adding that safeguarding these values was vital for building a peaceful and inclusive society.
The Governor said the teachings of Islam strongly discouraged hatred, extremism and prejudice while promoting peace, compassion and respect for the dignity of every human being.
He emphasized that elected representatives, media professionals, educators, religious scholars and civil society shared the responsibility of discouraging divisive narratives and promoting dialogue based on understanding, tolerance and positivity.
Highlighting the growing influence of digital platforms, the Governor stressed the need for responsible use of social media, warning against the spread of misinformation, hate-driven content and online polarization.
He said social media should be used to strengthen national unity, raise public awareness and encourage constructive engagement, particularly among young people.
Reaffirming his commitment to an inclusive and peaceful society, Governor Kundi urged all segments of society to reject intolerance and work together to reinforce the values of peace, coexistence and national harmony.
