FAISALABAD, Jun 18 (APP):The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has warned the public against fake and unauthorized social media accounts operating in its name, stating that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in the misuse of identity, logo and official information of the company.
FESCO spokesman said that the company had noticed that certain private individuals had created unauthorized pages and accounts on various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and WhatsApp by using the name, logo and other official information of FESCO without permission.
He said that the fake accounts were using identity of the company for personal publicity and promotional purposes, causing damage to FESCO’s reputation and credibility.
The spokesman clarified that FESCO had not authorized any individual, employee or private organization to establish or manage any social media account, page, channel or group by using name, logo, official insignia, documents or information of the company.
He urged the consumers not to trust, act upon or share any information, announcements or instructions issued through such unauthorized sources as they do not represent the official position of the power utility.
He also advised the public to exercise extreme caution while interacting with social media accounts claiming affiliation with FESCO.
He stressed that the consumers should never share electricity bill details, Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) numbers, bank account information, One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or any other personal and financial data with unauthorized individuals or accounts nor they should make any payments through unofficial channels.
He further warned that sharing official correspondence, records, data or any sensitive company-related information on social media or other electronic platforms constituted a violation of company discipline and regulations.
All FESCO officers and employees have been directed to strictly comply with relevant policies regarding the protection of official information, he added.
He said that FESCO administration had taken serious notice of the matter and directed all individuals unlawfully using name, logo or official information of the company to immediately remove and deactivate such illegal social media pages, accounts and channels.
Any person whether a private citizen or an employee found involved in misuse of FESCO’s identity, dissemination of misleading content, forgery or unauthorized publication of company information would face the strictest legal action under the relevant laws of Pakistan, he warned.
He appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while using social media and advised them to rely only on FESCO’s officially authorized communication channels for information and public service announcements.
FESCO’s official social media platforms include Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok accounts are operated under FESCO’s authorized management and the consumers should verify information through these official sources before taking any action, he added.
