BAHAWALPUR, Jun 18 (APP):A Punjab Food Authority (PFA) team conducted raid at a house in Ahmadpur East tehsil of the district and confiscated huge quantity of cooking ghee made from animal fat.

Official sources in the PFA Bahawalpur said that in a major food safety operation, the Punjab Food Authority team in Bahawalpur, under the supervision of the Deputy Director Operations, raided an illegal fat-rendering unit in Ahmedpur East and uncovered the production of ghee from animal fat.

They said that the unit was allegedly engaged in melting animal fat and processing it into ghee for sale. “During the raid, authorities recovered 432 kilograms of ghee and 160 kilograms of tallow fat (tallow),” they said, adding that the recovered products were confiscated and destroyed on the spot to prevent their distribution in the market.

A case has been registered against the owner of the unit, and one suspect was arrested during the operation, they concluded.
