SUKKUR, Jun 18 (APP):A meeting of ulema from Shia and Sunni schools of thought was held at the Commissioner Office Sukkur’s conference hall here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi to ensure implementation of the code of conduct issued by the Sindh Government and to maintain law and order and security during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi said foolproof security arrangements had been made across the division during Muharram-ul-Haram and every possible measure was being taken to maintain peace and order.
He said the code of conduct issued by the Sindh Government would be strictly implemented and no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
He said police, Rangers, municipal committees, town committees, chairmen and secretaries of union councils, and officers of other relevant departments would be bound to perform their duties. He added that Muharram control rooms had been established at the district and taluka levels where citizens could register complaints, while provision of electricity, gas, and other basic facilities would be ensured in all circumstances.
The Commissioner said strict action would be taken against miscreants and anti-peace elements, and no kind of provocation or sectarianism would be allowed in the district. He directed relevant departments to complete all arrangements before the start of Muharram-ul-Haram, including repair of street lights, cleanliness, drainage, and road repairs along procession and majlis routes.
He said lady police personnel had also been deployed for duty during processions and majalis. He added that the Loudspeaker Act would be strictly enforced and permission would be granted only for registered majalis, processions, sabeels, and matam programs as per record. Matam processions and majalis would conclude within the stipulated timings.
The Commissioner appealed to ulema and mourners to avoid vandalism if trains arrived late at the railway station during Muharram days, and to refrain from travelling on train roofs due to the serious risk of loss of life. He said the matter had been discussed with railway authorities and special trains would be run for the matam day in Rohri.
Commissioner Sukkur directed police officials to keep parking arrangements away from majalis venues. He also asked ulema to appoint scouts along with police during processions to keep watch on miscreants.
Addressing the meeting, he urged people to refrain from spreading unethical, un-religious, and fake news on social media, as it could worsen the situation.
On the occasion, ulema from different schools of thought presented their complaints and suggestions before the Commissioner, who assured them of resolving all genuine issues and grievances. A special prayer was also offered at the end of the meeting for those martyred during the ongoing war in Iran.
