ISLAMABAD, Jun 18 (APP):Chairman Senate Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani Thursday chaired an important meeting of the Executive Committee for the Employees Welfare Fund of the Upper House at Parliament House.
During the meeting, Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider informed that the fund operates entirely through voluntary contributions from Senate Members and Senate employees, with the objective of providing immediate financial support to employees in Grades 1 to 15 in cases of marriage, bereavement, and other emergency situations.
On this occasion, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani directed that the Welfare Fund be further strengthened, expanded, and made more effective.
He instructed that voluntary contribution forms be circulated again among all Members so that those willing to participate in this welfare initiative may contribute according to their convenience.
Chairman Senate observed that with the passage of time, salaries of Members and Senate employees have increased, therefore the Fund’s financial structure and operational mechanism should be reviewed to ensure that a greater number of employees benefit from it.
Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider also briefed the committee on the Welfare Fund policy framework and financial assistance mechanism.
Chairman Senate further proposed consultation with insurance companies to explore sustainable and effective welfare models aimed at strengthening employee welfare arrangements.
To formulate recommendations for improving the welfare system, a sub-committee comprising Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt, and Senator Aamir Waliuddin Chishti was constituted. The sub-committee will submit its recommendations to the main committee.
During the meeting, Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti proposed that Senate employees should also be provided opportunities to perform Hajj, similar to employees of other public institutions.
He announced personal financial support for sending two employees for Hajj and further pledged to contribute Rs. 100,000 monthly from his salary to the Welfare Fund.
Later, Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on the development of the Senate Mobile Application.
Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider briefed the Chairman and participants on the application’s development, key features, and expected benefits for parliamentary affairs.
Under the leadership of Chairman Senate, the Senate Secretariat has decided to introduce a comprehensive mobile application for Members of the Senate, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s technology-driven transformation agenda.
The initiative reflects the Chairman Senate’s vision of aligning parliamentary institutions with modern technology while promoting efficiency, environmental sustainability, and improved governance. The application has been developed entirely through the Senate Secretariat’s internal resources and professional expertise, demonstrating institutional innovation, self-reliance, and efficient utilization of public resources.
Chairman Senate stated that the initiative aligns with the broader objective of promoting the E-Office system within the Senate Secretariat. He emphasized that digitalization is essential for improving administrative efficiency, enhancing institutional transparency, and ensuring timely access to information.
He further noted that transitioning to digital systems would significantly reduce paper consumption, minimize administrative delays, and contribute towards environmental sustainability goals.
Secretary Senate informed the meeting that the user-friendly mobile application will provide Senators with secure and convenient access to parliamentary affairs and official information through their mobile devices and tablets.
The application includes several modern and innovative features designed to improve communication, accessibility of information, and operational efficiency for Members of the Upper House.
Through the application, Senators will gain immediate access to Senate sessions, legislative business, standing committee information, official notifications, parliamentary documents, schedules, and other important information.
Special emphasis has been placed on ease of use, security, and accessibility to ensure a seamless user experience.
The Chairman Senate appreciated the efforts of Senate Secretariat officers and the technical team involved in developing the application and described it as an important step towards building a digitally empowered Senate.
He stated that the use of modern technology would save both time and resources while further improving institutional performance and the quality of public service delivery.
The meeting was informed that the formal launch ceremony of the Senate Mobile Application will be held in the near future. Following the launch, comprehensive training and awareness sessions will also be arranged for Senators to enable effective utilization of all features of the application.
Reaffirming his commitment to promoting modern governance practices within the parliamentary system, Chairman Senate stated that the Senate Secretariat would continue advancing innovation, technology, and sustainable administrative reforms in line with evolving institutional needs.
