MIRPUR, Jun 17 (APP): An unusual human-interest development emerged in Mirpur amid an ongoing security crackdown linked to the banned Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee, when a young woman appealed to authorities for the release of her fiancé, drawing public attention to the case.
According to official sources, the woman submitted a written petition to Mirpur SSP Khurram Iqbal, stating that her wedding is scheduled for next month and requesting leniency for her fiancé, who was recently detained by local police. She maintained in her plea that the detained individual held no significant role in any proscribed activity and was not actively affiliated with the banned organization.
Police officials confirmed that the SSP took immediate notice of the application and reviewed it on humanitarian grounds. The petitioner also assured authorities that her fiancé would refrain from any involvement in unlawful activities in the future, even if his name had appeared during preliminary inquiries.
Following the appeal, SSP Khurram Iqbal directed concerned officers to thoroughly examine the facts of the case and verify the individual’s involvement. He instructed that if investigations do not establish any active link with the banned group, appropriate legal relief may be considered in accordance with the law, allowing the person to attend to his forthcoming marriage and family responsibilities.
Law enforcement authorities reiterated that their objective is not to create hardship for ordinary citizens but to uphold law and order. They added that all cases are being assessed on merit, with decisions taken strictly in line with legal procedures and available evidence.
