MIRPURKHAS, Jun 17 (APP):A high-level meeting and seminar under the banner of the “Peace Caravan” was held in Mirpurkhas on Wednesday to review Muharram-ul-Haram preparations and strengthen interfaith and inter-sect harmony. Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nawab Sameer Hussain Laghari, the event brought together senior civil and police officials, religious scholars, community leaders, and representatives of key public service departments to discuss security, administrative arrangements, and measures aimed at ensuring peaceful observances across the district.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Laghari said promoting harmony among religious communities remains a top priority in line with directives from the Ministry of Interior. He emphasized that the observance of religious events is a constitutional and legal right and noted that Mirpurkhas has long been recognized for its tradition of peaceful coexistence and communal harmony. Religious leaders, including Mufti Sharif Saeedi, Maulana Hafeez-ur-Rehman Faiz, and Syed Hamza Ali Naqvi, highlighted Islam’s teachings of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect, urging citizens to continue fostering unity during Muharram.
The meeting also reviewed civic and security arrangements for the holy month. Deputy Commissioner Laghari directed relevant departments to ensure cleanliness, proper lighting, and uninterrupted drinking water supplies along procession routes, warning that negligence would not be tolerated. Mayor Abdul Raouf Ghouri informed participants that sanitation operations were already underway and that municipal teams were working on an emergency footing to address public concerns and facilitate mourners.
Officials from key service departments outlined contingency measures to support Muharram activities. District Health Officer Dr. Nahchal Rai announced the deployment of 14 ambulances at hospitals and along procession routes to provide emergency medical assistance, while HESCO Superintending Engineer Ameer Ahmad Memon said a comprehensive plan had been prepared to prevent power outages during majalis and processions. Emergency response teams, he added, would remain on standby throughout Muharram to promptly address any electricity-related disruptions.
