Budget provides relief to salaried class, businesses, real estate sector: Bilal Tarar

ISLAMABAD, Jun 17 (APP):Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Bilal Farooq Tarar on Wednesday welcomed several relief measures included in the federal budget, including changes in income tax slabs for salaried individuals, the removal of a nine per cent additional surcharge, the abolition of super tax on businesses, and tax reductions for the real estate sector.
Speaking during the National Assembly budget debate, he said tax rates on exports had been reduced, while incentives had been announced for the information technology and financial export sectors, including a lower tax rate for three years.
He also highlighted the exemption of taxes on raw materials used in medicines for cancer treatment.
Tarar praised the proposed US-Iran peace agreement and paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
He said their diplomatic efforts had helped prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.
The PML-N lawmaker said Pakistan’s leadership played an important role in promoting understanding that helped reduce tensions.
He added that the development had improved Pakistan’s image internationally and increased respect for the country on the global stage.
Referring to domestic issues, Tarar said the prime minister had fulfilled his commitment that any available fiscal space would be used to provide relief to the people.
He added that the budget did not introduce any new taxes despite pressure to increase the general sales tax by one per cent.
He also highlighted development allocations for major hydropower projects under the Public Sector Development Programme, including the Dasu and Diamer-Bhasha dams, for which Rs103 billion had been allocated.
He said Pakistan’s economy, agriculture and water resources were closely connected.
Any restriction in water flow, he added, would damage the agricultural sector, which contributes significantly to the country’s economy and provides employment to a large number of people.
The lawmaker called for political unity on national security and water-related issues, stressing that such matters should remain above party politics and provincial differences.
He appreciated the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin
Naqvi, and credited them for their role in recent diplomatic and governance-related achievements.
