RAWALPINDI, Jun 17 (APP):Comprehensive security arrangements have been finalized across the Rawalpindi Region to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Region, Babar Sarfraz Alpa, said on Wednesday.
According to a police spokesperson, a total of 4,813 majalis (religious gatherings) and 1,065 processions will be held across the region from 1st to 30th Muharram.
During the first ten days of Muharram, authorities expect 4,376 majalis and 759 processions to take place.
More than 14,000 police officers and personnel will perform security duties throughout the region from 1st to 10th Muharram to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of participants.
The RPO stated that special control rooms have been established at both regional and district levels to facilitate effective monitoring, coordination, and the timely exchange of information.
He emphasized that the Punjab government’s code of conduct and standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be implemented in letter and spirit.
Babar Sarfraz Alpa directed all officers and personnel to remain on high alert and ensure strict security monitoring of sensitive locations, imambargahs, and procession routes during Muharram. He added that close coordination would be maintained with other law enforcement agencies to strengthen security measures.
He further said that surveillance through Safe City cameras, along with search, sweep, combing, and intelligence-based operations, would be intensified to prevent any untoward incidents. Authorities will also take strict legal action against individuals spreading sectarian hatred or provocative content on social media.
To facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during processions, alternative traffic management plans have been devised. Traffic police personnel will remain deployed along procession and majalis routes to minimize disruptions and ensure public convenience.
The RPO reiterated that, in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, all available resources are being utilized to maintain peace and security across the Rawalpindi Region. He affirmed that the protection of citizens’ lives and property, as well as the maintenance of a peaceful environment during Muharram, will remain the top priority of the police.
