ABBOTTABAD, Jun 17 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abbottabad, Sarmaad Saleem Akram visited schools under the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) to review the ongoing rehabilitation and improvement work of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities and to initiate the release of development funds.
The project, funded by IRANDG Netherlands under Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) management, has formally commenced in District Abbottabad to upgrade clean drinking water, hygiene, and sanitation facilities in public schools.
In this regard, the first installment of funds was released for Government High School No. 3 and Government Girls High School Jhangi. Cheques of Rs. 313,470 for Government High School No. 3 and Rs. 349,320 for Government Girls High School Jhangi were handed over to the respective PTAs/PTCs chairmen.
The total project cost has been set at Rs. 1.1 million for Government High School No. 3 and Rs. 1.2 million for Government Girls High School Jhangi. The initiative was aimed to modernize WASH facilities and provide students with improved sanitary conditions.
The cheque distribution ceremony was held in the presence of relevant education department officials. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed that transparency, quality, and accountability must be ensured in the execution of the project to ensure further development funding for educational institutions could be facilitated in future.
He emphasized that access to clean water and proper sanitation was essential for creating a safe and healthy learning environment and played a key role in improving educational standards.
SRSP Regional Programme Manager, Zubair Anwar briefed participants on the scope and financial aspects of the project.
Local community members, PTAs, parents, and teachers appreciated the initiative by SRSP and the IRANDG Netherlands-funded project, calling it an important step toward improving basic school facilities and ensuring a better future for students.
