Commissioner, RPO review Muharram arrangements, inspect procession routes in Chakwal

RAWALPINDI, Jun 16 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak on Tuesday directed all concerned departments to ensure foolproof security and maintain excellent cleanliness arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Presiding over a meeting to review Muharram arrangements during a visit to Chakwal district along with Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Babar Sarfaraz Alpa, he stressed the need for the timely repair of procession and majlis routes, proper functioning of street lights, effective traffic management and uninterrupted provision of medical facilities.
Deputy Commissioner Sarah Hayat and District Police Officer (DPO) Kashif Zulfiqar gave a detailed briefing about the security, administrative and civic measures being undertaken across the district for the sacred month.
The commissioner further instructed that village committees should be activated at the grassroots level to help maintain law and order. He said Assistant Commissioners must ensure continuous monitoring of arrangements in their respective tehsils and take prompt and effective action wherever required.
Khattak also emphasized that the District Peace Committee, religious scholars and local dignitaries should play a proactive role in promoting brotherhood, tolerance and a peaceful atmosphere throughout the district.
Expressing confidence in the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders, he said peace, religious harmony and the best possible administrative environment would be ensured during Muharram-ul-Haram.
RPO Babar Sarfaraz Alpa urged members of civic and peace committees to immediately inform the administration and police about any suspicious activities or the presence of mischief-makers. He also directed authorities to ensure effective monitoring of inflammatory, hateful and sectarian content circulating on social media.
Later, the commissioner and the RPO visited Imambargah Muhajireen Sadat and Sir Pak in Chakwal to inspect arrangements for Muharram. Accompanied by district administration and police officials, they reviewed the Muharram procession route from its starting point to the concluding destination and conducted a detailed assessment of security measures, cleanliness arrangements and other administrative preparations along the route.
The commissioner directed the district administration, police and organizers of processions and religious gatherings to maintain constant coordination and communication throughout the holy month to address any issues promptly.
He further emphasized that all arrangements relating to law and order, civic services and the protection of mourners participating in Muharram processions and gatherings should remain fully effective and functional to facilitate the peaceful observance of religious activities.
