LAHORE, Jun 16 (APP): The Punjab government has allocated Rs170 billion for the Suthra Punjab Programme in the fiscal year 2026–27, reaffirming its commitment to improving sanitation services and environmental sustainability across the province.
According to official figures, a total of Rs270 billion has been provided for the implementation of the programme across Punjab so far. Under the initiative, sanitation and cleanliness services have been extended to approximately 120 million residents, contributing to a healthier and cleaner living environment throughout the province.
The Suthra Punjab Programme has emerged as one of the Punjab government’s flagship projects and has received recognition at several international platforms. The initiative was presented at COP30, where its model for large-scale waste management and public sanitation attracted attention. The programme has also been acknowledged by leading international media outlets, including BBC, Forbes, and Bloomberg, for its impact and effectiveness.
Punjab Finance Minister stated in his budget speech that the programme has generated more than 200,000 employment opportunities, making it one of the largest job-creating public service initiatives in the province. They added that, for the first time in Punjab’s history, efforts are underway to develop projects aimed at converting waste into economic value through modern waste management and resource recovery systems.
