KOHAT, Jun 16 (APP):The police arrested an alleged drug trafficker following an exchange of fire during a checkpoint operation in the district, the police spokesman said on Tuesday.
According to police, a team of Lachi police station, led by Station House Officer (SHO), Masood Khan, attempted to stop a suspect identified as Zakir during a routine operation.
The police said the suspect and an associate opened fire on the team in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest.
The police returned fire, injuring Zakir before taking him into custody, he said, adding the outlaw’s accomplice escaped from the scene, and efforts were underway to arrest him.
The injured suspect was shifted to hospital , while legal proceedings were initiated against him, the police said.
During the operation, the police recovered a weapon allegedly used in the shooting, a motorcycle and approximately hashish 1 Kg from the suspect’s possession.
District Police Officer Dr. Shahbaz Elahi said operations against criminal elements and drug traffickers would continue and the police remained committed to maintaining law and order in the area.
