LAHORE, Jun 15 (APP): University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani reaffirmed the UVAS’s commitment to strengthening research excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialization while working closely with Higher Education Commission (HEC) and industry partners to achieve shared national objectives.
He said this during a meeting with the Convener of the HEC Task Force on Offices of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORICs) and Business Incubation Centers (BICs) Prof Dr Javaid Laghari (former Chairman HEC) at UVAS City Campus. Dr Javaid Laghari was accompanied by Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin (former Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission). The meeting reviewed the progress, achievements and future direction of research commercialization and innovation initiatives at UVAS.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the significant achievements of UVAS faculty, key initiatives in the livestock and veterinary sectors, successful research and development interventions and impactful collaborations with industry and government stakeholders. Sharing the university’s future vision, Prof Rabbani said that the UVAS Ravi Campus will be transformed into a vibrant Livestock Tourism Hub integrating education, research, outreach and public engagement. He expressed his gratitude to Dr Javaid Laghari and Prof Nizamuddin for their visit, their constructive feedback and strategic guidance.
Dr Javaid Laghari appreciated the progress made by the UVAS’s ORIC and BIC and acknowledged their growing contribution to innovation and commercialization. He emphasized on the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships, promoting market-oriented research, encouraging technology transfer and enhancing commercialization mechanisms to maximize the societal and economic impact of university research.
Appreciating UVAS linkages with the industry, Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin encouraged the university to continue expanding collaborative partnerships, commercialization initiatives and innovation-driven activities. He emphasized on sustaining the momentum through continuous engagement with stakeholders and translating research outcomes into practical solutions for national development.
Director ORIC UVAS Dr Farhan Jamil presented an overview of ORIC, its strategic role in research management, grant facilitation, intellectual property management, industry linkages, technology transfer, commercialization support and collaborations.
The meeting was also briefed on BIC’s operational framework, startup incubation model, entrepreneurial support services, mentoring mechanisms, industry engagement and initiatives aimed at promoting innovation-driven enterprises.
