on Monday directed accelerated efforts for the establishment of women-friendly
facilities, including separate toilets and daycare centres, in public buildings and
other public spaces across Punjab.
He was chairing a meeting attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development
Sadia Taimoor and Secretary Women Development Saman Rai, which reviewed in detail
ongoing measures and future plans for improving facilities for women in service areas,
bus stands, government buildings and other public places.
The meeting was informed about the current steps being taken by the Women Development
Department, including correspondence with relevant departments for the provision of separate
toilet facilities for women in government buildings.
On the occasion, the minister said the Communication and Works Department would provide
full technical and administrative support to ensure timely execution of women-friendly infrastructure
projects. He said practical measures were being taken under the leadership of Chief Minister
Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif to improve access, safety and convenience for women in
public spaces.
The minister said that providing a safe, dignified and accessible environment for women remained
a key priority of the provincial government, and all departments would continue coordinated efforts
to translate these plans into ground-level facilities.
He directed the Women Development Department to prepare PC-I for the proposed initiatives
at the earliest to facilitate swift processing and implementation.
Parliamentary Secretary Sadia Taimoor said the department was actively pursuing initiatives
aimed at improving women’s welfare, while Secretary Saman Rai briefed the meeting on ongoing
coordination with relevant departments for early implementation of planned facilities.
