Pakistan played key role in reducing regional tensions: Sheikh Aftab

ISLAMABAD, Jun 15 (APP):Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister Sheikh Aftab Ahmed Monday said that Pakistan has played an important role in easing tensions in the region.
Speaking during the National Assembly debate on the federal budget 2026–27, he said the country’s leadership had followed clear policy direction.
He credited PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for political guidance and praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their strategic and security contributions.
He also lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying his government’s policies helped improve Pakistan’s international standing and avoided a potential financial default that was widely feared earlier.
The lawmaker said Pakistan had achieved success in addressing war-related challenges.
Commenting on the budget, he termed it a clear and structured financial plan focused on revenue generation and expenditure management, though he added that limited fiscal space remained a major challenge.
He said allocations had been made for agriculture, education, and students, but added that farmers were still facing difficulties due to market disruptions and supply chain issues.
He highlighted the hardships of labourers and low-income groups, saying rising prices and unemployment were affecting daily wage earners.
On public sector salaries, he said a seven percent increase had been announced but called it insufficient in view of inflation, urging improvements in allowances.
He stressed that industrial growth was vital for economic stability and called for stronger focus on domestic production and structural reforms.
He said Pakistan is gradually improving its international standing and economic direction.
