Storms & rains kill seven, injure 33 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: PDMA

PESHAWAR, Jun 14 (APP): At least seven people have been killed and 33 others injured in various incidents caused by heavy rain, strong winds and lightning across different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last 24 hours.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday, the casualties occurred mainly due to the collapse of roofs and walls. The deceased included two children, four men and one woman.
The PDMA report stated that the incidents were reported in the districts of Bannu, Shangla and Mansehra.
Authorities have also warned of a possible Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in the upper parts of the province. Rising temperatures combined with recent rainfall have accelerated glacier melting, increasing the risk of flash floods.
Deputy Commissioners in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra have been directed to remain on high alert. Officials fear that low-lying areas may experience flooding and have instructed local administrations to continuously monitor vulnerable locations.
The authorities have further directed district administrations to ensure timely warnings and evacuations in high-risk areas. Residents have been advised to stay away from riverbanks, seasonal streams and areas with strong water currents to avoid any loss of life or property.
