Anti-smog guns launched in Faisalabad to combat pollution

FAISALABAD, Jun 13 (APP): Director General (DG) Environment Punjab Imran Hamid Sheikh has inaugurated state-of-the-art anti-smog guns in Faisalabad to improve air quality and curb environmental pollution under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz for clean, green and healthy urban environment.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where DG Environment formally activated the anti-smog guns by pressing button.
The initiative is aimed at reducing airborne dust particles and mitigating smog through regular water spraying at key locations across the city.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) General Anwar Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Finance and Planning Mudassar Mumtaz, Deputy Director Environment Muhammad Usman, representatives of business community, industrial associations and academia also attended the ceremony.
Among the prominent participants were President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), representatives of All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), Power Loom sector leaders and Rector of The University of Faisalabad Amanullah Malik.
Speaking on the occasion, DG Environment Imran Hamid Sheikh said that Punjab government was utilizing all available resources to ensure clean and healthy environment.
He said that the use of modern technology had become essential for effectively tackling smog and environmental challenges faced by rapidly growing urban centers.
He said that newly launched anti-smog guns would play an important role in reducing dust and airborne pollutants by spraying water at various locations in the city, thereby improving air quality and helping protect public health.
He said that environmental protection and sustainable urban development are major priorities of the provincial government. In this connection, coordinated efforts by district administrations, environmental authorities and other stakeholders were imperative for achieving long-term improvements in environmental conditions, he added.
Earlier, a meeting was held in which Deputy Director Environment Muhammad Usman briefed the participants about ongoing anti-smog initiatives, environmental challenges and future plans for improving air quality in the district.
Later, Environment Department and The University of Faisalabad (TUF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in environmental awareness, research and smog control initiatives.
