WB delegation visits Tarbela Fifth Extension Hydropower Project, expresses satisfaction over progress

A high-level delegation of the World Bank, led by its Country Director for Pakistan, Bolorma Amgaabazar, visited the under-construction Tarbela Fifth Extension Hydropower Project (T-5) and expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of work being carried out on the strategic energy project.

TARBELA, Jun 13 (APP): A high-level delegation of the World Bank, led by its Country Director for Pakistan, Bolorma Amgaabazar, visited the under-construction Tarbela Fifth Extension Hydropower Project (T-5) and expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of work being carried out on the strategic energy project.
During the two-day visit, the delegation was given a comprehensive briefing on the project’s construction activities, technical progress, financial management and social development initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of local communities. The delegation also inspected various construction sites and reviewed ongoing engineering works.
The World Bank team appreciated the operational performance of the 1,410-megawatt Tarbela Fourth Extension Hydropower Project, highlighting its contribution to the national power system through the generation of clean and affordable electricity.
Expressing confidence in the project’s advancement, the delegation reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to maintaining its strong development partnership with the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to support Pakistan’s efforts in expanding renewable energy generation and ensuring the supply of reliable, low-cost and environmentally sustainable hydropower to the national grid.
Officials informed the delegation about the project’s implementation status and future milestones, while also outlining measures being taken to ensure timely completion and compliance with international standards.
Among those present during the visit were WAPDA Member (Finance) Naveed Asghar Chaudhry, Member (Power) Muhammad Irfan, General Manager/Project Director T-5 Umair Manan, General Manager/Project Director Tarbela Dam Project Anwar Shah, Advisor T-4 and T-5 Azam Joiya, Advisor Tarbela Dam Project Hazrat Umar and other senior officials.
At the conclusion of the visit, commemorative souvenirs were presented to the members of the World Bank delegation in recognition of their continued support for Pakistan’s hydropower development initiatives.
