Punjab Food Authority cracks down on adulterated tea, registers case against Chiniot tea point

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has registered a case against a prominent tea point located on Old Jhumra Road after laboratory tests confirmed the sale of substandard and adulterated tea leaves, officials said on Saturday. 

CHINIOT, Jun 13 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has registered a case against a prominent tea point located on Old Jhumra Road after laboratory tests confirmed the sale of substandard and adulterated tea leaves, officials said on Saturday.
According to a PFA spokesperson, samples collected during an inspection were analyzed and found to contain prohibited dyes and other unauthorized ingredients. The laboratory report declared the tea leaves unfit for consumption and in violation of food safety standards.
During the operation, authorities confiscated and destroyed 25 kilograms of defective tea leaves. Inspectors also identified serious breaches of pure food regulations, including poor hygiene conditions and inadequate pest-control measures at the premises.
The spokesperson said legal proceedings were initiated under the relevant food safety laws, adding that the crackdown is part of the Punjab Food Authority’s zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration and fraud, being implemented on the directives of the Director General of the authority.
