ISLAMABAD, Jun 13 (APP):The organizational elections of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Pakistan Chapter, were successfully conducted, marked by democratic values, organizational discipline, mutual consultation, and transparency.
As a result of the electoral process, Ghulam Muhammad Safi was elected unopposed as Convener, while Advocate Pervez Ahmad Shah was elected General Secretary and Imtiaz Wani was elected Information Secretary, said a press release.
The election process was supervised and administered by an Election Commission comprising Syed Kifayat Hussain, Raja Khadim Hussain, Javed Butt, and Abdul Majeed Lone, who ensured an organized, transparent, and consensus-based electoral exercise.
Congratulating the newly elected leadership, the APHC expressed confidence that they would carry forward their responsibilities with vision, commitment, and sincerity, in line with the objectives of the Jammu and Kashmir freedom movement, the sacrifices of the martyrs of Kashmir, and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The APHC reiterated that its establishment was driven by the historic and national necessity of providing a unified, organized, and effective platform for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for the right to self-determination.
Over the past several decades, the people of Kashmir have made immense sacrifices in pursuit of freedom, justice, and fundamental human rights. Thousands have lost their lives, while many others have faced enforced disappearances, political detentions, and serious human rights violations. Despite these challenges, the Kashmiri people have remained steadfast in their commitment to their inalienable right to self-determination.
On this occasion, the APHC reaffirmed its position that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains an internationally recognized issue and continues to be on the agenda of several United Nations Security Council resolutions. The Conference emphasized that the core objective of the Kashmiri struggle is the realization of the right to self-determination, as recognized by the international community and the United Nations.
It reiterated the demand that the people of Jammu and Kashmir be granted the opportunity to determine their political future through a free, fair, and impartial process.
The APHC expressed hope that the newly elected leadership would undertake effective measures to strengthen organizational stability, internal unity, and national cohesion.
It also underscored the importance of enhancing engagement with various Hurriyat constituencies, political and social organizations, youth, women, and the global Kashmiri diaspora.
The Conference stated that these elections reflect not only organizational continuity, institutional stability, and the strengthening of democratic traditions, but also demonstrate the resilience and determination with which the Kashmiri people continue their struggle despite ongoing challenges and pressures. The APHC paid tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir, detained political activists, and all families who have made extraordinary sacrifices and displayed remarkable perseverance in support of the movement.
In conclusion, the APHC AJK and Pakistan Chapter called upon the international community, the United Nations, international human rights organizations, media institutions, and influential global bodies to play an effective role in safeguarding the fundamental human, political, and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
It urged them to fulfill their responsibilities toward facilitating a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, thereby contributing to peace, stability, and justice in the region.
