LAHORE, Jun 12 (APP): Punjab Minister for Health and Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that all-out efforts are being made to provide the best emergency services to the public in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, adding that the operational capabilities of Rescue 1122 are being further strengthened across the province.
He expressed these views during a special visit to the Rescue 1122 Headquarters on Friday, where he reviewed the department’s preparedness for the upcoming flood season.
During the visit, Secretary Emergency Services Department Dr. Rizwan Naseer gave a detailed briefing on flood preparedness, mock exercises and flood rescue operations. The provincial minister was informed about the arrangements made to effectively respond to any flood-related emergency situation.
The briefing revealed that Punjab Emergency Service has conducted 76 flood mock exercises in coordination with relevant institutions throughout the province. These exercises have significantly improved the operational capacity of available equipment and strengthened inter-agency coordination. It was further informed that the procurement of life jackets, jet skis and aluminum rescue boats for possible flood rescue operations is underway.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Rescue 1122 is being equipped with modern resources to further improve its emergency response capabilities. He said the procurement of advanced communication equipment, landing craft for evacuation, jet skis, boat carriers and other flood response equipment would greatly enhance the department’s ability to deal with flood emergencies.
Secretary Emergency Services Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that advance planning and preparedness play a vital role in ensuring prompt response and effective rescue operations during emergencies. He added that the procurement of modern equipment and related development work are being monitored on a fast-track basis on a daily basis to ensure timely completion.
