RAWALPINDI, Jun 12 (APP): Managing Director, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi, Azizullah Khan, on Friday reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects under the Punjab Development Programme (PDP), anti-dengue measures, monsoon preparedness and arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, directing officials to ensure timely completion of all assigned tasks.
Chairing a meeting at the WASA Headquarters, he stressed the need for quality execution of development schemes and proactive field monitoring to facilitate citizens.
Azizullah Khan directed officials to continuously monitor low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas to minimise inconvenience to residents during rainfall. He said all possible steps were being taken to prevent stagnant water accumulation and improve drainage arrangements throughout the city.
Appealing to the public for cooperation, he urged citizens to keep their homes, streets and surroundings clean and avoid allowing clean water to collect in open areas.
The MD further directed that all arrangements related to drainage, sewerage and the supply of clean drinking water along Muharram procession routes be completed well in time to ensure that mourners faced no inconvenience.
He instructed all officers and field staff to remain vigilant, maintain close coordination with other departments and play a proactive role in addressing public issues.
Azizullah Khan said WASA Rawalpindi was utilising all available resources to provide improved civic services and ensure effective monsoon preparedness, dengue prevention and Muharram arrangements in line with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
During the meeting, the MD also reviewed progress on projects being executed under the PDP, with particular focus on the Holy Family and Hamilton Road schemes. He directed the officers concerned to complete all development works within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high standards of quality.
A detailed review was also conducted of the ongoing desilting campaign covering drains, nullahs and sewer lines in view of the approaching monsoon season.
The meeting also discussed anti-dengue measures being undertaken across the city. The MD said recent weather changes and the onset of the monsoon season could increase the risk of dengue mosquito breeding, requiring preventive action on an emergency footing.
