RAWALPINDI, Jun 12 (APP): Divisional-level trials for the Chief Minister Girls Hockey Championship 2026 were successfully held at the Shahnaz Sheikh Hockey Stadium, Rawalpindi, under the “Khelta Punjab, Phalta Punjab” programme aimed at promoting women’s hockey and nurturing female sporting talent.
Organised by the Divisional Sports Department Rawalpindi, the trials brought together talented players from all four districts of the Rawalpindi Division, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal.
The participants displayed impressive skills, competitive spirit and enthusiasm for the national game, making the trials both competitive and entertaining.
Divisional Sports Officer Chaudhry Waheed Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest. District Sports Officer Shams Tohid Abbasi, Provincial Coach Shafqatullah Khan Niazi, Punjab Hockey Association representative Madam Parveen Shafi, Madam Sajida, Sports Teacher at Danish High School Jund, and other officials of the Sports Department were also present.
The selection committee finalised the Rawalpindi Division girls’ hockey team purely on merit following the completion of the trials in an organised manner.
The selected players will represent Rawalpindi Division in the Chief Minister of Punjab Games.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhry Waheed Ahmed said girls’ hockey was an integral part of Pakistan’s national game and was witnessing encouraging growth.
He said the Punjab government was taking practical steps to provide women with opportunities to participate in healthy and positive activities through various sporting events and trials.
“Our objective is to ensure that female athletes receive equal opportunities to showcase their talent and progress in the field of sports,” he said.
He added that such activities would continue in future to enable women to achieve greater success in sports.
