Punjab govt to replace fuel-powered buses with carbon-free electric vehicles

Punjab Mass Transit Authority has decided to replace fuel-powered buses with electric buses, taking an important step to promote environment-friendly transport system.

LAHORE, Jun 12 (APP): Punjab Mass Transit Authority has decided to replace fuel-powered buses with electric buses, taking an important step to promote environment-friendly transport system.
According to officials, under this project, the bus system managed by the Mass Transit Authority will be shifted to a modern electric system, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and providing citizens with clean, safe and modern travel facilities.
In this regard, applications have been invited from the concerned companies and firms, while the pre-qualification process will be started from July 16.
According to the conditions, only those companies will be eligible who have experience in supplying 12 meter long fully electric buses, besides, experience in supply of 100 per cent genuine parts, repair and maintenance of electric buses has also been made mandatory.
Under the project, the responsibility of installation and commissioning of charging stations will also be entrusted to the respective companies, while the training of drivers and operational arrangements of the buses will also be entrusted to them.
Officials say that this initiative is being taken under the Punjab Mass Transit Authority and its aim is to promote a carbon-free and environment-friendly public transport system as per the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
