PSDP 2026-27 earmarks Rs1,000 million for Islamabad Model Prison project

ISLAMABAD, Jun 12 (APP):The federal government has allocated Rs1,000 million for the ongoing construction of the Model Prison in H-16, Islamabad, under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2026-27 to strengthen correctional infrastructure and improve prison management facilities in the federal capital.
According to Budget 2026-27 documents release on Friday, the project is being implemented under the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on July 20, 2016.
The total cost of the project stands at Rs7,399 million, of which Rs4,738.951 million had been spent up to June 30, 2026. The remaining throw-forward liability has been estimated at Rs 2,660.049 million as of July 1, 2026.
The government has earmarked Rs1,000 million for the project during fiscal year 2026-27 to accelerate construction work and facilitate its timely completion.
The Model Prison is expected to provide modern correctional and rehabilitation facilities, improve inmate management, reduce overcrowding and strengthen security arrangements in line with contemporary prison standards.
According to the Budget 2026-27 document released on Friday, the federal government has earmarked Rs1 trillion under the PSDP as part of the overall national development outlay of Rs3.675 trillion, with priority given to completion of ongoing projects and other high-impact development initiatives.
The Model Prison project is among the key ongoing schemes in Islamabad aimed at improving public service delivery, institutional capacity and correctional facilities in the federal capital.
