SIALKOT, Jun 12 (APP):An international seminar on the establishment of the first Rhizobacterial Culture Collection Bank was held at Government College Women University Sialkot on Friday.
According to a university spokesperson,the seminar was organized by the Department of Botany to highlight an initiative aimed at establishing the university’s first repository of beneficial Rhizobacteria.
The proposed project seeks to conserve native bacterial diversity and facilitate the development of eco-friendly biofertilizers and biopesticides to support sustainable agricultural practices.
The Culture Collection Bank will provide authenticated bacterial strains to researchers and other stakeholders, fostering research,innovation and industry-academia collaboration.
University officials said the facility would also contribute to climate-resilient crop production by promoting the use of beneficial microorganisms in agriculture.
The initiative was described as a landmark step towards strengthening microbial resource conservation, advancing agricultural biotechnology and promoting sustainable crop production in Pakistan.
Participants noted that the project has the potential to support scientific research and address emerging agricultural challenges through environmentally sustainable solutions.
