ISLAMABAD, Jun 11 (APP):Pakistan Meteorological Department meteorologist Anjum Nazeer Zaighum on Thursday said Karachi is likely to experience a hotter day with an increasing temperature trend while a western disturbance may cause a slight weather change and light rain in upper and northern parts of the country including areas around Islamabad and he advised the public to remain cautious.
While speaking to a local media outlet, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) meteorologist said the heatwave would continue in Karachi, while other regions of the country are likely to experience slight relief in weather conditions.
He added that from tomorrow (June 12) through next week, rain is expected in several districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and most parts of Balochistan, bringing some change in the prevailing weather pattern.
He advised the public to remain cautious amid changing weather conditions and stay updated with official forecasts to avoid any inconvenience.
Responding to a query, PMD Anjum Zaighum said climate change was increasingly affecting weather patterns, leading to more frequent heatwaves, heatstroke cases and flood situations across different parts of the country.
He noted that rising temperatures and erratic rainfall were clear indicators of changing climate conditions, which were impacting public health, agriculture and daily life, especially in vulnerable regions.
He urged people to contribute positively by investing time in tree plantation and environmental protection, saying that growing more trees was essential to reduce climate impacts and ensure a safer future for coming generations.
He also advised the public to take necessary precautions during the ongoing heatwave, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activity during peak hours, and taking care of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.
He further warned that in areas where rain was expected, there might be a risk of flooding in low-lying regions, urging people to stay alert, avoid crossing flooded roads, streams and nullahs and follow official weather updates.
