Punjab Health Department urges PMDC for early approval of increased medical seats in colleges

LAHORE, Jun 10 (APP): The Punjab Health Department has written an official letter to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) requesting urgent resolution of the matter regarding the increase in seats in government medical colleges across Punjab for the upcoming academic session.
According to the letter on Wednesday, the Punjab Government had earlier submitted a formal request on August 21, 2025, seeking an increase of 475 seats in public sector medical colleges. The matter was later placed before the PMDC Council for approval.
The department noted that the MDCAT 2026 is scheduled to be held on August 12, 2026, while the MBBS and BDS admission session 2026–27 is set to commence shortly. It added that the Punjab Government has already issued details of the admission policy and seat distribution for the upcoming session.
In its communication, the Health Department requested that the process of finalizing the increased seats be expedited so that the additional seats can be incorporated into the upcoming admissions cycle without delay.
The letter emphasized that timely approval is necessary to ensure smooth admissions planning and to accommodate the expanded capacity in government medical colleges for the next academic session.
