The Cabinet Committee on Law and Order on Wednesday held a meeting with the Divisional Peace Committee, Ulema and Mashaikh in Rawalpindi to ensure the successful implementation of efforts aimed at maintaining peace during Muharram-ul-Haram.
Ulema, Mashaikh reaffirm commitment to peaceful Muharram

LAHORE, Jun 10 (APP): The Cabinet Committee on Law and Order on Wednesday held a meeting with the Divisional Peace Committee, Ulema and Mashaikh in Rawalpindi to ensure the successful implementation of efforts aimed at maintaining peace during Muharram-ul-Haram.
According to an official handout, Punjab Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique and Provincial Minister and Co-Chairman Bilal Yasin attended the meeting. Provincial Ministers Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharath and Bilal Akbar Khan, along with Members of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb and Engineer Qamarul Islam, were also present.
Members of the Divisional Peace Committee, Ulema and Mashaikh expressed satisfaction over the security and administrative arrangements made for Muharram-ul-Haram.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Friday would be observed as “Unity Day” and paid tribute to the constructive role of religious scholars in promoting harmony among Muslims. He said the administration and peace committees had made excellent arrangements through mutual understanding and coordination.
Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin said that members of the peace committee were actively engaging with administrators, licence holders, religious scholars and community representatives. He added that the positive and constructive role of Ulema always contributes to social reform and stability.
Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharath expressed confidence that followers of all schools of thought would observe Muharram peacefully with religious devotion and respect.
Provincial Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said that the mutual respect and affection displayed by religious scholars served as a model for the entire society.
Secretary Home Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi praised the efforts of scholars from all schools of thought in promoting Muslim unity and inter-sect harmony.
Members of the Peace Committee emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in the country was a collective responsibility. They also appreciated Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s honour programme for mosque imams.
The Ulema and Mashaikh paid tribute to the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel, describing them as a source of pride for the nation. They reiterated their commitment to cooperation and unity, stating that no hostile force could undermine the harmony and consensus among the people. They also appreciated the Punjab government’s cleanliness initiatives under the “Clean Punjab” programme.
The meeting concluded with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of the country and nation, as well as for a peaceful Muharram-ul-Haram.
Secretary Home Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, Additional IG CTD Waseem Sial, Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak, RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa, Chief Coordinator PFTEC Brigadier Asjad Ali, DIG Special Branch Sajjad Manj, DG Auqaf Hafiz Anisur Rehman and district officers from across the division also attended the meeting.
