Students, teachers in Upper Chitral sensitized on environmental protection, climate change

PESHAWAR, June 10 (APP): An awareness activity aimed at sensitizing students, teachers and community members about environmental protection, climate change, deforestation, waste management, natural resource conservation and sustainable practices was held at Government High School (GHS) Balim in Union Council Laspur, Upper Chitral.
The event, attended by around 120 participants, including male and female students, was organized by HUJRA Village Support Organization (HVSO) with support from the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF).
Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Committee (PTC), Purdom Wali, attended the event as the chief guest, while Village Council Chairman Mir Wali was also present on the occasion.
Participants were encouraged to adopt environmentally responsible practices and contribute towards maintaining a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
Addressing the participants, chief guest stressed importance of environmental conservation and highlighted the significance of World Environment Day in promoting collective action for a greener and more resilient future. He urged participants, particularly young people, to play an active role in protecting the environment.
Students prepared drawings and paintings on environmental themes, highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
They also presented a tableau depicting key environmental challenges and the collective responsibility of communities in safeguarding the environment.
As part of the event, an awareness walk was organized across UC Laspur with the participation of students, teachers, community members and HVSO staff.
Participants carried banners and placards bearing messages on environmental conservation and climate action, helping to raise awareness among the wider community.
The activity enhanced participants’ understanding of environmental issues and reinforced the importance of community-led efforts in promoting environmental sustainability.
In his remarks, PTC Chairman Purdom Wali appreciated the support of PPAF and acknowledged its contribution to local development initiatives.
He also recommended extending similar interventions to other schools in the region to further strengthen environmental awareness, educational outcomes and community development efforts.
