Jail official sentenced to 25 years in Mahwish Jarwar murder case; husband acquitted

MIRPURKHAS, Jun 9 (APP): A local court in Mirpurkhas on Tuesday convicted a jail police official in the murder case of Lady Police Constable Mahwish Jarwar, sentencing him to 25 years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs500,000 after finding him guilty of the offence.
The verdict was announced by the Court of the First Judicial Magistrate following the conclusion of trial proceedings in the high-profile case involving the death of the female jail police officer. The court found accused Muhammad Yousuf Khoso, a jail police official, guilty and awarded him a 25-year prison sentence along with the monetary penalty.
At the same time, the court acquitted the deceased officer’s husband, Gul Muhammad Pathan, ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish charges against him beyond reasonable doubt. Consequently, he was cleared of all allegations related to the case.
Mahwish Jarwar was found dead in a residential quarter of Central Jail Mirpurkhas nearly a year ago. Initial reports suggested that she had been found hanging inside the premises. However, subsequent investigations led law enforcement authorities to treat the incident as a murder case, resulting in the registration of an FIR against both accused persons.
Following the completion of legal proceedings, examination of evidence, and arguments presented by both sides, the court delivered its final judgment, convicting one accused while acquitting the other due to insufficient evidence.
