Severe heatwave conditions in Sindh: PDMA puts relevant agencies on alert

KARACHI, Jun 09 (APP): In wake of moderate to severe heatwave conditions for the next 3 days in various districts of Sindh, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), on Tuesday, called for necessary steps to prevent any untoward incident.
The PDMA Sindh, according to a statement issued here, indicated possibility of a moderate to severe heat wave in various districts of Sindh from 9 to 12 June, 2026 and temperature in the upper districts is likely to ascend to 51C and in the lower district it may climb to 45 C while the intense heat may also cause strong and dusty winds and dust storms in the plain areas of the province.
The temperature in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Moenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze may reach 48 to 51 degrees Celsius, remaining 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than normal, it stated, adding that the maximum temperature in Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro and Sanghar districts is likely to be 42 to 45 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, the maximum temperature in Karachi division is expected to be 39 to 42 degrees Celsius during June 9 to 12.
According to the meteorological department, very hot and dry weather prevailed over most parts of Sindh during the previous 24 hours. The highest maximum temperature in the province was recorded at 48C in Dadu, while Jacobabad, Sukkur, Rohri, Khairpur and Moenjo Daro sizzled at 47 C. Maximum in Nawabashah remained 45C, in Hyderabad 43C, Mithi 41C while 37C in Thatta and Karachi.
Highlighting the potential increase in the demand and consumption of electricity, the PDMA Sindh directed all concerned agencies to remain alert and take necessary steps to prevent any untoward incident.
The authority advised the public, especially children, women and senior citizens, to take precautionary measures, better avoid leaving their homes unnecessarily in extreme heat, especially from 10 am to 4 pm, and to consume maximum water to avoid dehydration.
Farmers were also advised to take proper care of their crops keeping in mind the weather conditions and also take special care of their livestock.
