According to the spokesman, the primary objective of the team was to identify elements attempting to undermine sectarian harmony, spread incitement, launch hate campaigns or promote religious intolerance through social media platforms. The team would monitor suspicious accounts, pages and groups across various social media platforms and initiate immediate legal action against individuals found violating the law.
The special monitoring team comprises officers from NCCIA’s Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan regions. The team would be headed by Deputy Director Dr Muhammad Rehan Sabir, while other officers would be responsible for monitoring activities and carrying out intelligence-based operations in their respective areas.
All team members had been directed to remain at their designated duty stations during the assignment period and would not be allowed to leave without prior approval. The order further warned that departmental action would be taken against any official found negligent or violating the issued instructions.
Punjab NCCIA Director Muhammad Ali Wasim said a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against elements seeking to disrupt peace, religious harmony and national unity during Muharram. He emphasised that individuals involved in unlawful activities would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
