FUUAST to organize conference on Green Journalism to highlight role of media in protecting environment

ISLAMABAD, Jun 09 (APP):The Department of Mass Communication at the Federal Urdu University Islamabad, in collaboration with OIC- COMSTECH, will organize a conference on Green Journalism on June 11 to highlight the role of media in environmental protection.
The event will be held at the COMSTECH Secretariat and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, will attend as the chief guest, said a press release on Tuesday.
The conference will bring together leading journalists, anchorpersons, media professionals, academics and researchers from different universities.
Participants will present research papers on environmental communication and sustainable journalism.
Vice Chancellor of the Federal Urdu University ( FUUAST) Prof. Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari (Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), said that the conference would be an important step toward promoting responsible and environment focused journalism in Pakistan.
He noted that discussions will focus on the role of media in raising awareness about environmental issues, the social and professional responsibilities of journalists, and the importance of responsible journalism for national development.
The conference will also discuss ways to protect forests, natural resources and the environment through effective media engagement.
Environmental experts, senior journalists and researchers will share their views, while students of the university will contribute through research posters and documentary presentations.
Dr Shinwari thanked COMSTECH, particularly its Coordinator General, Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chuadhary, for supporting the initiative.
He said that partnering with an international organization like COMSTECH is a matter of pride for the university, its faculty, and students.
He emphasized that a clean and healthy environment is the right of every citizen and appreciated COMSTECH’s efforts in promoting environmental awareness.
He expressed hope that the Green Journalism Conference would serve as a useful platform for both the media industry and media academia, encouraging greater attention to environmental issues and responsible reporting.
The conference is expected to provide meaningful discussion and practical ideas for strengthening the role of media in environmental protection and sustainable development.
