ATTOCK, Jun 9 (APP): Bahter Police have arrested two women on allegations of filing a false gang-rape complaint and operating a honey-trap scheme allegedly used to blackmail and extort money from citizens, police officials said on Tuesday.
According to police sources, the action was initiated after Bahter Police received an emergency call reporting an alleged gang-rape incident. A police team immediately responded to the complaint, reached the scene, and commenced legal proceedings in accordance with standard operating procedures. Investigators subsequently examined available evidence and recorded statements from relevant individuals as part of the inquiry.
Police officials stated that the initial allegation was found to be unfounded during the course of a detailed investigation. Further inquiries allegedly revealed that a woman identified as Nabeela Akhtar, along with an accomplice, had been involved in trapping and blackmailing individuals to extort money. Investigators also claimed that the suspects had previously been linked to the registration of similar cases at different police stations.
Based on the findings, Bahter Police registered a case against both women and took them into custody. Officials said the accused are being presented before a court along with the evidence collected during the investigation for further legal proceedings.
Police authorities reiterated that all reports of serious crimes are treated with urgency and investigated thoroughly to ensure justice and protect the rights of all parties. They also warned that strict action would be taken against individuals found misusing legal processes or lodging false complaints.
However, police emphasized that the allegations remain subject to judicial scrutiny, and under the law, the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
