KOHISTAN, Jun 09 (APP):The expansion work of the Patan Grid Station has entered its final phase, marking a major development in efforts to address long-standing electricity issues in the Lower Kohistan and Hazara region.
Officials stated that the project gained accelerated momentum following sustained public protests by local residents over persistent power outages and low voltage issues. The situation further intensified when demonstrators blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) for several days, demanding immediate resolution of electricity shortages and improved power supply infrastructure in the area.
In response to the growing public pressure, the district administration and relevant authorities initiated and expedited work on the expansion of the Patan Grid Station to ensure a long-term solution to the region’s power crisis.
The region has been facing chronic electricity supply challenges for years due to rising demand, infrastructure limitations, and load management issues. Frequent outages and voltage fluctuations had severely affected domestic users, businesses, and development activities, leading to repeated public unrest and demonstrations.
According to technical officials, the project is now in its final phase of completion. All major wiring work has been successfully completed, while a comprehensive testing process of the grid station’s systems is currently underway to ensure operational safety and eliminate any technical faults.
Officials further confirmed that the critical process of energizing and activating the main heavy transformer is also in progress. This stage represents the final technical step before full commissioning of the facility.
The expansion work is being closely supervised by the district administration, with continuous monitoring from technical teams working round the clock. Officials said that coordinated efforts between departments were strengthened after the protests and road blockades, which highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure improvement.
