Over 24,000 street crime incidents reported in Karachi during first five months of 2026: CPLC

KARACHI, Jun 08 (APP):More than 24,000 street crime incidents were reported in Karachi during the first five months of 2026, according to the latest statistics released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).
The report stated that a total of 24,195 incidents of street crime were recorded across the metropolis from January to May, while 4,671 cases were reported during May alone.
According to the statistics, 20 vehicles were snatched at gunpoint and 106 vehicles were stolen during the month. In addition, 445 motorcycles were snatched and 2,240 motorcycles were stolen.
The CPLC said that armed criminals deprived citizens of 1,860 mobile phones during the reporting period.
The report noted that no case of kidnapping for ransom was reported in Karachi during May.
However, 10 incidents of extortion and one bank robbery were recorded during the month, it added.
According to the report, 56 people lost their lives in firing and other violent incidents in May.
