Punjab seeks deployment of Army, Rangers for Muharram security

Punjab Home Department on Monday sought the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel to ensure foolproof security arrangements across the province during Muharram.

LAHORE, Jun 08 (APP): Punjab Home Department on Monday sought the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel to ensure foolproof security arrangements across the province during Muharram.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department,a formal request has been sent to the Federal Ministry of Interior on the recommendation of Punjab Police for assistance in maintaining law and order during the month.
The spokesperson said that law enforcement agencies were making comprehensive arrangements to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram across the province.
A total of 137 companies of security personnel have been requested for deployment in 39 districts of Punjab,including 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of Rangers.
The spokesperson said that the Army and Rangers contingents would perform security duties from 1st to 11th Muharram, depending on the requirements of different districts.
