RAWALPINDI, Jun 07 (APP): Police have arrested five members of an inter-provincial car lifter gang and recovered three stolen vehicles worth more than Rs4.5 million during a successful operation.
Police spokesperson told on Sunday that the suspects were taken into custody during a targeted crackdown against vehicle theft in the jurisdiction of Saddar Wah police station.
The recovered vehicles had reportedly been stolen from different locations and were being shited for illegal sale.
Investigators revealed that the arrested suspects have criminal records and were previously involved in numerous cases, including robbery, vehicle theft, attempted murder, narcotics offences, and illegal weapons possession in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Police said the gang operated across provincial boundaries, stealing vehicles and shifting them to KP, where they were sold through illegal channels.
SP Potohar Sardar Babar Mumtaz Khan said the suspects would be challaned before the court with solid and concrete evidence to ensure their prosecution.
Further investigations are underway to determine the gang’s wider network and possible involvement in other vehicle theft cases.
