LAHORE, Jun 07 (APP):The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for the coming week, expressing the fear of a severe heat wave across the province.
According to the PDMA, the temperature is likely to be 5 to 7 degrees Celsius higher than normal in most districts of Punjab from June 8 to 12. The temperature in Upper Punjab may reach 41 to 44 degrees, while in South Punjab it may reach 44 to 48 degrees Celsius. Severe heat conditions are also expected in other districts including Lahore.
Relief Commissioner Punjab Nabeel Javed has directed the commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain alert and said that all administrations should ensure advance arrangements as per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
According to DG PDMA Umar Javed, the weather is likely to remain hotter than usual even at night, while there is also a risk of dusty winds and storms.
PDMA has directed citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun from 10 am to 4 pm and to consume maximum water. Children, women and senior citizens have been urged to take special precautions.
Farmers have been instructed to take advance measures to protect crops and livestock, while Rescue 1122 has been asked to remain alert to provide immediate assistance to those affected by heatstroke and water shortage.
