RWMC steps up awareness efforts on World Environment Day

RAWALPINDI, Jun 05 (APP): The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) on Friday organised an awareness walk, door-to-door campaign and market outreach activities to mark World Environment Day and promote environmental protection and cleanliness among citizens.

Chief Executive Officer of RWMC Rana Sajid Safdar, along with officers, supervisory staff and other employees, participated in the activities held across the city.
Participants carried banners and placards bearing messages on environmental conservation, cleanliness and pollution control. Awareness pamphlets were distributed among residents, while door-to-door campaigns were conducted in markets and residential areas to encourage environmentally responsible practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana Sajid Safdar, said World Environment Day provided an opportunity to renew the collective commitment to maintaining a clean, green, and pollution-free environment.
He urged citizens to dispose of household and commercial waste in designated dustbins rather than dumping it in open spaces, and to make cleanliness a part of their daily routine to ensure a healthier environment for future generations.
Rana said that, under the Clean Punjab Programme, raising public awareness was as important as providing efficient sanitation services.
He said citizens could register sanitation-related complaints through the Punjab sanitation helpline 1139 to ensure the timely resolution of their concerns.
As part of the campaign, awareness messages were disseminated through vehicle-mounted announcements and megaphones in different localities. Special announcements highlighting cleanliness and environmental protection were also made in mosques, urging citizens to cooperate with the objectives of the Clean Punjab Programme.
Participants pledged to continue such awareness activities in the future to help reduce pollution, promote cleanliness and strengthen public awareness, to make Rawalpindi a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally friendly city.
