Multan marks World Environment Day with plantation drive,awareness rally
MULTAN, Jun 05 (APP):World Environment Day was observed with a seminar,awareness rally and tree plantation drive to highlight environmental protection and the growing challenges of pollution and climate change,here on Friday.
The main seminar held at Raza Hall was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner(DC)(Finance),Mohsin Nisar and attended by District Officer Environment,Dr.Tahir Sial, former MNA,Sheikh Tariq Rasheed, district officials and representatives of civil society.
Addressing the participants,Mohsin Nisar said safeguarding the environment was a shared responsibility of all citizens, warning that climate change,environmental degradation and excessive use of plastic had become serious global concerns requiring collective action.
He said,in line with directives of the Punjab government, a strict ban on plastic shopping bags had been enforced across the district,urging citizens to adopt environmentally friendly and biodegradable alternatives.
Dr.Tahir Sial, speaking on the occasion,urged citizens to actively support government efforts aimed at reducing pollution and protecting natural resources,stressing the need to discourage environmentally harmful practices.
Later,the ADC inaugurated a tree plantation campaign at the Raza Hall lawns along with civil society members.
An awareness rally was also taken out from Raza Hall to Chowk Katchery,where participants carried banners and placards highlighting environmental conservation and anti-pollution messages.
The event concluded with a pledge by participants to contribute towards a cleaner,greener and more sustainable environment.
