Governor Kundi calls for collective action to protect environment

PESHAWAR, Jun 04 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday urged collective efforts for environmental protection, saying that a clean, green and safe environment was essential for securing a better future for coming generations.
In his message on the occasion of World Environment Day, the Governor said that climate change, air pollution, deforestation, depletion of water resources and environmental degradation were major challenges facing the world today.
He said that Pakistan was among the countries most vulnerable to climate change despite contributing only a small share to global carbon emissions.
Faisal Karim Kundi said environmental protection was not solely the responsibility of governments but a shared obligation of every individual, institution and sector of society.
He stressed that greater public awareness and practical measures were needed to address environmental challenges effectively.
The Governor said sustainable use of natural resources, tree plantation, promotion of clean energy and implementation of environment-friendly policies were vital to overcoming environmental problems.
He added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was blessed with natural beauty, forests and water resources, and their preservation was a collective responsibility.
He urged citizens to play their part by planting trees, conserving water, avoiding unnecessary use of plastic and promoting cleanliness in their communities.
Highlighting the role of youth, he called upon young people to become ambassadors of environmental protection and encourage eco-friendly practices in their homes, educational institutions and society.
Reaffirming his commitment to environmental conservation, forest development, sustainable resource management and climate resilience, the Governor said support would continue for all efforts aimed at protecting the environment.
He added that World Environment Day served as a reminder that the Earth was a shared home and safeguarding it was a collective responsibility of all humanity.
