IHC summons MCI administrator over entry fee in New Blue Area

ISLAMABAD, Jun 04 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday summoned the Administrator of the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to appear personally on June 8, seeking to know under which law the entry fee is being charged in the New Blue Area of the federal capital.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Tayyab challenging the entry fee for the New Blue Area. Lawyers Zohaib Gondal and Hazrat Younis appeared on behalf of the petitioner.
The counsel argued that commercial markets, corporate headquarters, and restaurants are located in the New Blue Area.
The MCI is charging a fee of Rs. 100 for the use of the service road in the New Blue Area. This is not a parking fee but a charge being levied on anyone who uses the service road, the lawyers submitted.
The MCI is not providing any facility or service in exchange for this charge, the counsel argued. Charging an entry fee for the New Blue Area is also a violation of superior court decisions, they said.
The court issued notices to the Secretary Interior, Chief Commissioner, and MCI seeking their responses and directed them to submit their replies by the next hearing.
The court also summoned the MCI Administrator to appear personally on June 8.
The hearing was adjourned until Monday.
